英国大学文书xxx 第1篇

I am very interested in the upcoming election and how the different parties' attitudes to business and welfare will affect the vote and the eventual success of the country. I wish to study a course that will provide me with a thorough insight into the political and economic impact of our national decisions.

Books such as Tim Harford’s The Undercover Economist have further revealed how the economy and the ‘real’ world interact. This has made me query how much a number like the GDP matters when it fails to take into account elements as important (albeit nearly immeasurable) as a population’s happiness. I am interested that Nicolas Sarkozy is raising these issues in France. I keep up with current affairs through reading newspaper articles and watching programs such as Question Time.

To further my understanding of the financial world, I arranged work experience with Tideway Investment in London. At first sight this appeared to be a surreal world where moving money around creates more money. I began to learn more about the realities of valuing companies and stock. This raised questions related to the generation of wealth and how this is affected by economics and politics.

One way I have personally attempted to explore these issues is to write a novel manuscript, the two lead characters being a student and a criminal outcast. It is an exploration of the two characters’ status and integrity, tracing their economic class and comparing how much the government values each individual. I learnt much from this personally motivated project. I did considerable research covering issues such as “Megan's Law”, and was influenced by political writers such as George Orwell and Truman Capote. I enjoyed exploring issues such as how a criminal record changes job prospects, and yet how a class of lesser paid citizens may be required for society to function. It raised my concern about the philosophy and ethics of political systems, and has motivated me to study these issues further. By writing this novel during my college studies I demonstrated rigorous time management skills and dedication.

In 2008 I submitted a short story and won a place at Atlantic Center For The Arts, Florida, on a creative writing residency. This boosted my ability and self confidence in my work.

I have spent time discussing political issues as a member of Truro College's Academic Academy, including debates on how to deal with illegal music downloading, and what can count as 'art'.

In 2009 I worked as a Junior Mentor at an International Gateway for Gifted Youth summer camp at Warwick University. I managed two groups of teenage students. I enjoyed this position of responsibility and developed my skills in teamwork, motivating young people, and leadership.

Last year I formed a band for which I play guitar, sing, and compose songs. I hope I will be able to push my musical limits with other talented musicians at the University.

My A level subjects reflect my strengths in both sciences and arts. I appreciate the logical rigour in Mathematics, and the practical empirical nature of the sciences. In the arts, I have developed critical and analytical skills and creativity. I want to utilise this combination of my abilities in my degree course. I am keen to gain insight into the complex relationship between political, economic, and scientific thought, and how this is integral to our society.

Despite not applying for a music degree, this personal statement was heavily musically orientated to show another side to me. Almost all university interviewers enquired about this interest, so it was probably a good idea to put it down.

When asked why I like Mathematics, I realised that it is all down to my personality. Being a composed, explicit person, I enjoy the challenge of questions with unequivocal answers.

My character’s orderly side draws me enthusiastically towards neat solutions, my creativity gives rise to my acceptance of new ideas and my positive mind results in my wish to succeed.

All questions have definite answers; we just need to construct ways of reaching them.

Mathematics at AS Level opened my mind to several new areas of algebra, sequences and series, and functions. I keenly welcomed the new techniques and enjoyed all aspects of the course.

Some of my favourite areas, however, were trigonometry and calculus; it was fascinating to see how trigonometric functions come together in a few simple identities!

Being new to the methods of differentiation and integration, I spent extra time going over examples, which soon became clear in my mind. I look forward to investigating these topics further in the A2 modules.

In addition to retaining a strong interest in Mathematics, my fascination for computers has grown. Nevertheless, I was unsure of whether or not I wanted to pursue a joint honours course of Mathematics with Computer Science, or a single degree course of Mathematics.

My decision to apply for the joint course was confirmed after I attended a number of Computer Science Summer School courses in London.

Joining Dubai College has given me the chance to explore new horizons. Responsibilities, such as being a prefect and Year 7 liaison, have made me realise our importance in the school as sixth formers.

I am currently in the process of completing my Duke of Edinburgh Gold award, for which I successfully finished an 80km expedition through the mountains of Mauritius. I will never forget the feelings of pure enjoyment and adventure; it was truly a challenging experience!

Although A Levels take up a great deal of time, I manage to maintain personal fitness by horse riding daily. I routinely enter dressage and show jumping competitions throughout the ., where I frequently achieve a medal place. Riding horses brings on a sense of freedom and allows me socialise out of school.

I have also obtained an understanding of what it is like to work amongst a large group of people through working in various companies around Dubai.

These included Barclays Bank, Prolab Digital and Palms Nursery. I particularly benefited from my experience at Barclays, as it introduced me to many fields, such as trading, accountancy and exchange, and taught me to appreciate the evident need for teamwork.

Although I am still unsure of the path I will take after graduating, I know that having a Mathematics and Computing degree will give me many transferable skills.

I am currently investigating a number of regions that appeal to me, which include actuarial science and further postgraduate study.

For now, I intend to approach the future positively and have many exciting thoughts. I hope to encounter new opportunities, make new friends and rise to the challenge of university!

The human body is undoubtedly one of the greatest natural phenomena known to man, and in its sheer complexity and intricacy is the inevitability of something going wrong, thus highlighting the tremendous role that doctors play in ensuring that the many diverse systems of the body are working flawlessly.

The challenges faced by doctors on a daily basis are perhaps what make a career in medicine one of the most demanding, strenuous, and yet rewarding professions there is.

My genuine interest in the workings of the human body is what led me to study biology at A-Level, in which I became enticed by the meticulous workings of the various bodily systems, such as the heart and lungs. To strengthen my understanding in a clinical environment, I undertook a 2-week work placement at [NAME OF HOSPITAL] Hospital Heart Unit.

I was able to observe ECG scans and talk to patients about their experiences and medical conditions. The opportunity to work in a real-life environment greatly enhanced my listening skills, an aptitude vital in any good doctor and the experience proved invaluable in providing me with a realistic perception of hospital life.

I discovered that although doctors are constantly faced with many different situations, the key to successful patient care lies in a compassionate, empathetic doctor, a role which I believe I will be able to embody.

Wanting to learn more about general practice, I undertook another work placement at a GP surgery. I was given the opportunity to talk to doctors and patients, observe routine checks on patients, and work at reception, from which I was able to learn about how a general practice is run.

My placement at the surgery illustrated to me the importance of communication between doctors and their patients, and the serious consequences of the breakdown of communication. As a multi-lingual, I was able to draw on my ability to speak English, Punjabi and Urdu, by conveying requests between patients and reception staff.

To gain a deeper insight into the relevance of pharmacology in patient care, and to improve my skills as an independent learner, I recently completed an Open University short course in molecules, medicines and drugs.

I learned about how commonly used drugs, such as aspirin and salbutamol, achieve their effects and how the positive effects of a drug must be weighted against the possible side effects when deciding whether or not to issue a particular medicine.

During the course, I also came across ethical issues related to medicine, as to why some people may choose not to take their prescribed medicine due to social, cultural and religious beliefs.

I am an active member of Islamic Society which has helped me to become a more open-minded individual with an unprejudiced view on life.

I am also a part of Amnesty International and as a group member I have taken part in school assemblies and written letters to governments, advocating human rights.

To improve my interpersonal skills, I became a mentor in maths and chemistry for two younger students in my school. Being a prefect for a year 8 form class also helped me to integrate into the school community and improve my communication skills.

I have recently secured myself a voluntary work placement at XXX Nursing Home.

I look forward to this great opportunity to enhance my communication skills by working with the senior community and I have confidence that I will be able to demonstrate the sensitivity and understanding needed to look after a vulnerable part of society.

The long and difficult understanding of disease is ever-changing, being propelled by new advances in technology, and I believe that as an inquisitive and dedicated individual, I have the drive and willpower needed to learn from this wealth of knowledge at university and to improve the lives of generations to come.
